The USF School of Music kicks off the semester with an exciting concert of new music by the Wind Ensemble! Each piece in the concert has been composed in the 21st century. We open with Viet Cuong's "Full Circle" (2019), which spins the iconic circle of fifths chord progression into a brazen, reverberant sound world, where keys and instrumental colors are sequentially cycled through. That will be followed by Mike Mower's "Concerto for Flute & Wind Orchestra" (2004), featuring our extraordinary Flute Professor, Francesco Arnone. Next is a world premiere by USF Composition Professor, Paul Reller. "Huddled Masses" (2025) is a rhythmic exploration of the wind ensemble's vast textures and sonority and is unlike any other piece in our repertoire. We close with James David's "Symphony No 2: The Road is Life" (2024), which was inspired by the 1940's and 50's Beat Generation of American writers. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a unique and stimulating afternoon of groundbreaking music.
