We used to make movies in this country, you know? The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, a rollicking, spooky knee-slapper in the vein of the Abbot & Costello Meet series that set Don Knotts on a career after The Andy Griffith Show that stretched from here all the way to 1980’s The Private Eyes, is the tale of lily-livered milquetoast Luther Heggs, a typesetter who aspires to be a reporter for his local newspaper. When the editor sends him to spend a night in a creepy old mansion that was the scene of a terrible murder-suicide, he reports the news as he sees it: there’s a bunch of ghosts in there and they’re scary as all get out. But when he gets sued for libel (long story), will he crack the mystery and win himself a job?
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is not rated, but can be considered a G equivalent.
