The Skills Center is a sports based youth development organization. We promote sports intentionally infused with life skills and academics. We pursue a purposeful development of young minds from ages 3 to 18.
Academic Cafe
The Academic Café is a state of the art, collaborative learning environment where students in 1st – 12th grade can participate in educational programs that positively support academic success. The Café provides interaction-learning zones that encompass both collaborative group and independent work areas offered in person and virtual learning environment. The Café is offered in a comfortable and quiet learning setting.
In addition, the Café empowers parents with workshops and resources that support their child(ren) journey through primary and secondary school.
Tampa Y.E.S. Girls Program
Tampa Y.E.S is designed to empower girls in the 6th-9th grade. We will provide academic support, life skills, promote healthy minds and bodies with lessons and physical activity and also mentorship. The girls involved in the program will have the opportunity to participate in field studies and trips for exposure to enhance learning. There is no cost to participate in this program, all trips and field studies are also free. We offer the following camps when there is no school. Spring Break Camp, Summer Camp, Fall and Winter Camp.
Brains for Sports
For middle school students, this program improves math skills, builds positive relationships, and enhances social & life skills through sports such as basketball, soccer, tennis, golf and volleyball.
Career Exposure – Coming Soon
Provides middle and high school hands-on STEM and other industry career exposure. Includes exploring careers and learning directly from guest speakers in different fields and workplace tours.
Sports Mobile Group Counseling – Coming Soon
Using sport-based therapy, this program supports middle, high and alternative school students to address challenges and build resilience. Focusing on personal accountability, helping to define their purpose, developing positive self-image, a healthy mindset and to build confidence.
The Collab
The Collaborative is a collective impact model that creates equity in education, health, and workforce readiness for young people ages 11-24.
Using sports as a powerful learning tool, The Skills Center teaches youth how to transfer the skills learned naturally through sports and apply them to other environments in their lives such as school, work and community.
