4-H is a national youth development program open to all youth ages 5-18. The Florida Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program uses a learn-by-doing
approach to enable youth to develop the knowledge,
attitudes, and skills they need to become competent,
caring, and contributing citizens of the world. This
mission is accomplished by using the knowledge and
resources of the land grant university system, along
with the involvement of caring adults.
A 4-H Club usually concentrates on one or more
projects (such as gardening, woodworking, small
animals, food and nutrition, livestock, photography,
etc.) based on youth interests. 4-H members have
many opportunities: building leadership by electing
officers, conducting their own business meetings,
working together on community service activities;
meeting new friends; and most important, having
lots of fun
