Tampa General Hospital Women's Center
Tampa General Hospital is one of only three hospitals in the Tampa Bay area - and the only one in Hillsborough County - to have received international recognition as a Baby-Friendly® designated birth facility. Baby-Friendly designation is awarded to hospitals and birthing centers that provide an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and babies and offer mothers the information, confidence and skills to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding. Anticipating the birth of your baby is a very exciting time and there are many things to take care of before the big day. Our pre-registration process allows you to take care of the details of your hospital stay in advance. We recommend that you pre-register approximately two months prior to giving birth. The labor and delivery rooms at TGH allow you to remain in one room during the birth process. Up to two support people are welcome to be by your side during this very special time. Following delivery, you’ll be resting in the post partum unit where your baby will stay with you in your room, to promote parent-infant bonding. Our healthcare professionals are happy to answer your questions and a lactation consultant is available to assist with breastfeeding. It’s comforting to know that our Jennifer Leigh Muma Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where premature infants and critically ill newborns receive the most advanced care, is located on the same floor as the Women's Center.
