The Tampa Yacht & Country Club Swimming Team was originally established in 1962.

The program was inactive from 1967 to 1974, when it was re-established with some 30 swimmers. Today's team boasts more than 160 members ages 6 to 18 years old. The club is a charter member of the U.S. Private Club League and is the reigning League Champion.

Swimmers must be members of the Tampa Yacht & Country Club, and also a member of Florida Swimming. Florida Swimming is a member of United States Swimming, the governing body for swimming in the United States.

The Swim Team was established for all club member's children as a continuation of their swimming skills. This should be a direct follow-up to the Learn-to-Swim program. Children should seek to be proficient in the four major competitive strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle). Children that wish to join the team should be able to demonstrate the ability to swim Freestyle and Backstroke at least one (1) length of the pool.
